The Portuguese Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, Pedro Marques, announced at the opening of the real estate exhibition in Portugal 2016 (SIL) that the Government will launch a program to fund the rehabilitation of buildings.

About 2 billion euros of European funds and other financial instruments should be used to support the rehabilitation interventions, especially for private buildings.

Pedro Marques, said during his speech that the real estate sector was encouraging and that real estate transactions were increasing as well as foreign investments.

The latest figures released by the National Institute of Portuguese Statistics (INE) clearly show this trend.

The number of building permits granted increased by 12% during the second quarter of this year. The growth was also observed for the new constructions (+ 12%) and the rehabilitation of buildings (+ 11%). Not to mention a positive trend in employment in the sectors of construction and real estate.
